This is a Manager-level role responsible for leading, managing and mentoring a team of technical experts and maintaining client and vendor relationships during the implementation and operation of a suite of Epic applications. The role requires planning and coordination of technical and project management activities across a multi-layer architecture. This role will have some responsibility for both certification and technical configuration.

The Epic Technical Manager will help create and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion within a new and growth-minded service line for UnitedHealth Group. The Epic Technical Manager must be a self-motivated individual with exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in team environments.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide recommendations on staffing requirements (including staff augmentation), assist with hiring and create/maintain a well-developed orientation strategy for Capability buildup
Ensure all team members successfully complete all required job training, including Epic certification, and keep required certifications up to date
Establish and maintain relationships with key client stakeholders, Epic and/or other 3 rd party vendor representatives
Provide routine updates to the project management office regarding project timelines and milestones
Provide internal and external senior stakeholders with routine project updates or communicate as needed for escalations, break/fix, optimization, etc.
Support and hold the project team accountable to the identification, documentation and implementation of operational and technical workflows and best practices
Be familiar and stay up to date with regulatory requirements relevant to technical scope
Ensure a quality assurance/testing methodology is adopted in accordance to Epic and Optum requirements
Manage the development and delivery of a best practice technical training program
Manage a high-quality product activation and go-live support for technical teams at all client locations
Identify and confirm Service Level Agreements with clients according to Optum guidelines. Coordinate with the Optum support center/Help Desk staff as needed for long-term support integration
Foster innovation and coordinate with Epic, internal team, and clients to implement beneficial new functionality, workflow enhancements and upgrades within reasonable timelines
Provide back-up to the technical team as needed in areas specified
Provide go to market support as needed
Actively listen to project team (through routine meetings, Employee Engagement feedback, 1:1s, etc.) and support their growth according to UnitedHealth Group Human Capital requirements
Hold the team accountable to UnitedHealth Group Values and project deliverables. Provide performance feedback on a routine basis according to Human Capital requirements
Be willing to receive feedback
Encourage and support the team in best practice publications and case study creation for internal evangelization, external prospective client review and vendor conferences (like Epic's User Group Meeting)
Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience Epic technical implementation, support and/or optimization experience
3+ years of technical, infrastructure and support experience including with interfaces and interoperability standards (HL7 v2, FHIR, X12, other)
Proficiency with the Microsoft office suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint, Teams, Visio, and Word
Experience with ticket management systems
Proven team leadership, supervision/management, and communication skills
History of growing teams/CoE and making others better
Ability to travel up to 25%, USA domestic

Preferred Qualifications:
Epic certification(s)
Bachelor's degree
History of integrating applications with EHR technologies (preferably with Epic Systems)
Familiarity with healthcare and payer workflows and systems
Familiarity with HIPAA security and privacy regulations
Certification in Service Management, Project Management, or Business Analysis
Familiarity with process improvement and software development methodologies (like Agile)
Consulting experience with a focus on analyzing and interpreting client needs and creating value through professional product delivery
Reside in greater Nashville, TN or willing to relocate to Nashville
Key Competencies:
Exhibit excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and an ability to balance and fulfill multiple priorities
Adhere to an analytical approach with an ability to solve complex problems
In-depth knowledge of Epic EHR and the full implementation lifecycle of Epic's suite of EHR applications
History of implementing performance improvement initiatives aimed at improving end user experience, operating costs, group functions & productivity
Familiarity with usability concepts and techniques
Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships as well as motivate and inspire team members through strong consultative skills
Maturity in relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
