SUMMARY The Field Services Technician installs, maintains, and upgrades towers and tower equipment across the United Communications network. This role performs fieldwork with minimal supervision, including configuring routers and switches, supporting tower-based wireless systems, maintaining power plants, and responding to service outages. The technician safely climbs towers, conducts site inspections and audits, completes required documentation, and collaborates with internal teams to minimize service disruptions and ensure reliable operations. POSITION SCHEDULE AND ONSITE REQUIREMENTS This is a direct-hire, full-time position based out of our Chapel Hill, TN office. The role requires a combination of field and office work. Travel throughout the Middle Tennessee territory is required, and a company vehicle is provided. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required. Configure, deploy, and support routers and switches, including running configurations, modifying VLANs and ports, testing SFP ports, configuring IP addresses, and setting up Ubiquiti stations for tower-based internet connectivity. Independently troubleshoot and resolve network and power-related issues, including power failures, equipment power problems, fuses, breakers, wireless point-to-point connection issues, and weak signal conditions. Perform power plant maintenance and upgrades with minimal supervision, including replacing rectifier chassis and transferring power to new systems while minimizing service disruption. Install low-voltage power equipment, including rectifiers, fuses, and breakers, in accordance with standards and best practices. Self-dispatch to service issues and respond to trouble alerts in a timely manner, prioritizing outages and performance issues to ensure network reliability. Assist with daily operations at assigned office and field sites. Conduct tower structural mappings, inventory mappings, maintenance inspections, site audits, and pre- and post-work assessments. Safely climb towers and structures as required, maintaining active climber and rescue certification and adhering to all safety and quality control standards. Accurately complete and maintain inventory records, time logs, job cost documentation (including labor and materials), and site-specific closeout documentation. Coordinate with Customer Service to notify customers of planned maintenance while remaining flexible to respond to unplanned network issues. Support special projects and daily activities in coordination with the Field Services Supervisor. WHAT YOU BRING: High school diploma or equivalent, with specialized technical training or relevant hands-on work experience. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in tower installation and maintenance; experience within an ISP or telecommunications environment is preferred. Working understanding of wireless technologies; experience with point-to-point and tower-based wireless systems is a plus. Valid Tennessee drivers license with a satisfactory driving record. Active tower climber certification preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines. Proficiency with internet-based applications, including email, web browsers, and basic documentation tools. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport, establish credibility, and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships. Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in varying environmental conditions. Ability to safely climb towers and structures up to 500 feet while strictly adhering to all safety procedures and protocols.
